Atelier Ace, Ace Hotel's in-house creative studio, wanted an incense holder for a VIP giveaway going out with Japanese-style incense. They liked our Bubble best, but it was too big for the package, so we scaled it down to a mini version sized just for their sticks.

We've been making things for Ace Hotel for a while now — round soap dishes for guest-room vanities from Sydney to Toronto to Brooklyn to Athens. So when their team started putting together a VIP giveaway, they came back to us with a new one: each package was going out with Japanese-style incense, and it needed a proper holder to land on.
They already knew the piece they wanted — our Bubble Incense Holder, the bloopy, sculptural update to our round holder. The catch: the full-size Bubble was more holder than a giveaway calls for, in both footprint and price. So instead of starting from scratch (and a from-scratch budget), we scaled it down — same soft, stacked silhouette, hand-cast in black terrazzo, shrunk to gift size.
The one spec that mattered: it had to hold Japanese-style incense specifically. Those sticks are thinner than the bamboo-core ones most holders are drilled for — no core, just a slender stick of incense — so the mini Bubble's opening was sized exactly for what was going in the box. A small detail, but it's the difference between a gift that gets used and one that gets admired from a drawer.
This is one of our favorite kinds of custom work: not a brand-new mold, just a piece someone already loves, re-scaled to fit the project and the budget. Thanks for having us (again), Ace. 🤍
